Entraygues-le-Fel is a small but locally highly-prized VDQS 45km north-west of Rodez. The word 'Entraygues' means in the local dialect 'between waters', because it is at the junction of the rivers Lot and Truyère.

Many of the vines are grown on preciptious terraces ('Le Fel'), but those of Jean-Marc Viguier are grown on lower ground closer to the town. The soil is stony and very poor and the climate is a combination of the Mediterranean and the mountain air of the nearby Massif Central. The grapes for the reds and rosés are the Fer Servadou, Gamay, Cabernets Franc and Sauvignon, as well as some more purely local varieties such as Négret and Jurançon Noir. The red wines are strong-flavoured and velvety. The white wines are dry and very fruity, composed principally of Chenin.

At the 2004 Lot Valley Fair, Jean-Marc Viguier showed his wines via the Upper Rouergue Tourist Board. The wines were not available for sale at the Fair.

A word about Entraygues-sur-Truyère:

The Counts of Rodez founded Entraygues in the 13th-century. When the Lot became navigable in the 19th century, locals traded in wine and Cabécou cheese. Wander medieval streets crossed by ‘cantous’ - covered passageways creating a shaded maze linking the 15th- to 17th-century timber-fronted houses. See Notre Dame du Pontet Chapel (which houses temporary exhibitions and a 16th-century Madonna), the Castle (now a primary school), 13th-century bridges (Pont Gothique and Pont Notre-Dame) and 14th-century mill. For the best view of the village and the Lot valley, climb or drive to the Condat Belvédère.
