Gustave Eiffel and Leon Boyer built the Garabit Viaduct between 1882-1884, which carries the railway over the Truyère Gorge. A kind of horizontal Eiffel tower (built in 1889 for the International Exhibition in Paris), it is now one of the major tourist sites in the department.
